Essential Equipment

  1. Chawan (tea bowl)
  2. Chasen (bamboo whisk)
  3. Chashaku (bamboo scoop)

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Warm your chawan with hot water, then discard water
  2. Using a chashaku, measure 2 scoops (approximately 2g) of matcha
  3. Sift matcha into the bowl to remove clumps
  4. Add 2oz (60ml) of water at the proper temperature
  5. Hold the bowl steady with your non-dominant hand
  6. Whisk in a "W" or "M" motion rapidly for 15-20 seconds
  7. Finish with small surface movements to create fine foam
  8. Enjoy immediately before foam subsides
