Marukyu Koyamaen Tsubokiri autumn matcha tin

What Is Tsubokiri? Marukyu Koyamaen’s Autumn Matcha

Tsubokiri 壺切 is Marukyu Koyamaen’s autumn limited matcha. Its appeal is a mellow, full-bodied flavour and a story rooted in the season. If you already enjoy whisking matcha on its own, it offers a seasonal tea to explore.

Why is Tsubokiri an autumn matcha?

Marukyu Koyamaen connects Tsubokiri with kuchikiri, the traditional autumn tea-jar opening ceremony. The producer selects new-season tea and keeps it in cold storage through summer, allowing its flavour to gently mature.

How to enjoy Tsubokiri

Our suggestion is to start with usucha: matcha whisked with water. This gives you a way to explore the tea before deciding how you prefer to drink it.

Sift 2g into a warm bowl. Add 10ml of water and mix into a smooth paste, then add another 50ml and whisk. For a walkthrough, see our matcha preparation guides.

Should you choose a 20g or 40g tin?

20g is a good place to start if this is your first Tsubokiri. At 2g per bowl, it makes approximately 10 servings.

40g gives you more cups if you already enjoy seasonal matcha or want to share it. At the same portion size, it makes approximately 20 servings. Serving counts vary with the amount you use.
